Tip Calculator
Work out the tip on a bill and split the total evenly between any number of people.
Updated 27 Sep 2026
A 10.0% tip on 2,400.00 is 240.00, making the total 2,640.00. Split between 4, that is 660.00 each.
Enter the bill amount, the tip percentage and how many people are splitting it. The calculator shows the tip, the total and the amount each person owes.
What is the Tip Calculator?
A tip is a percentage added to a bill for service. Customary rates vary widely by country — around 15–20% is standard in the United States, while in much of Asia and Europe a service charge is often already included.
How to use the Tip Calculator
- Enter the bill amount before the tip.
- Enter the tip percentage you want to leave.
- Enter how many people are splitting the bill.
Formula
Total = bill + tip
Per person = total ÷ number of people
Some restaurants add a service charge to the bill before you see it. If so, the tip percentage here would apply on top of that charge — check the bill before tipping twice.
How the calculation works
The tip is a straight percentage of the bill, added to it, then the combined total is divided by the number of people. The calculator also shows the tip share per person separately.
Worked example
A ₹2,400 bill with a 10% tip, split between 4 people:
- Tip = 2400 × 0.10 = ₹240
- Total = ₹2,640
- Each person pays = 2640 ÷ 4 = ₹660
Uses and benefits
- Split a restaurant bill without arguing over the arithmetic.
- Check a service charge that has already been added.
- Work out a tip quickly at any percentage.
Frequently asked questions
It depends entirely on where you are. Around 15–20% is customary in the United States, 10% is common in India and much of Europe, and tipping is uncommon or even discouraged in Japan. Check whether a service charge is already on the bill first.
Convention in most places is to tip on the pre-tax bill, though tipping on the total is also common and simply slightly more generous. Enter whichever figure you prefer as the bill amount.
